Why Is Rod the Component Most Often Bought Blind?

The property that matters is the strength class of the steel, and it is invisible. Two rods of identical diameter, identical thread, and identical appearance can have very different tensile capacities depending on the grade of steel they were rolled from. What Does an Omani Environment Do to a Hanging Rod?

At the top, the rod is anchored to the structure by a beam clamp or an anchor bolt. At the bottom, it carries a pipe clamp, a clevis hanger, or a channel run fixed with channel spring nuts and strut brackets. Every one of those is a load path, and every one is a potential point of failure.
There is a corrosion trap here too. A stainless rod fitted with galvanised nuts and clamps creates a galvanic couple, and in salt air the mismatched metal corrodes preferentially at the joint.
